James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital - Tampa, Florida
Parking and Transportation
NOTE: Parking, shuttle and visitation policy changes are being made due to the enhanced screening measures for Coronavirus (COVID-19). Please check our home page (https://www.tampa.va.gov) and our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/VATampa/) for the most up to date information.
It has come to our attention that employees are parking at the out-patient pharmacy and dermatology clinic south of the hospital on Bruce B. Downs and walking/riding the shuttle to the hospital. Please note, the VA does not own this property and has only been allotted a limited number of spaces for Veterans as well as employees who work in that building to park. If you park there and do not work in the pharmacy and dermatology clinic, you are risk of being towed by the property owner. He has advised that he intends to tow vehicles at some point in the near future. We do not want any of our employees to experience the burden and frustration associated with towing, so please use the options detailed below for parking and transportation options.
Handicapped parking is available on all floors of the Parking Garage, in front of the ED, and in the Spinal Cord Injury parking lot - both self-parking and valet (see below). Handicapped parking is also available in the Freedom Lot, where ADA-compliant shuttles are available to transport patients to multiple stops throughout the campus. (See below for routes)
Patient valet parking is available at the Spinal Cord Injury Building Main Entrance from 0700 to 1700 (Monday through Friday). This service is best suited for access challenged patients who have appointments within Spinal Cord Injury. These spaces are limited and may fill up early.
Patient valet service is also available in the Freedom Parking Lot from 0700 to 1800 (Monday through Friday). The Freedom Parking lot is located on 133rd Avenue behind the WaWa on Fletcher. This is the best service to access the Main Entrance of the hospital or the Radiation Therapy Unit hallway from the Central Energy Plant (CEP) Stop. There is ample parking available in Freedom.
Patient self-parking at the Parking Garage can be full by 0900 on some days. Please use the Freedom Parking Lot, as needed. From the Parking Garage, you can access all stops via the Tram and Shuttle Service.
We have provided patient, visitor and staff self-parking at the University Mall (Blue Route). Shuttle service is provided approximately every 20 minutes from 0700 to 1800 (Monday through Friday) and is not wheelchair accessible.
The Juliet and Liberty lots are available for employee parking.

A sign designates the shuttle pick up location outside the Morsani College of Medicine and it drops off outside the main entrance of Building 1 at JAHVH. NOTE: The pedestrian bridge across Bruce B. Downs Blvd. was demolished and rebuilt as part of the construction project. The pedestrian bridge will still be available for foot traffic, but people will need to follow the sidewalk to Richard Silver Way entrance to access the JAHVH campus through Gate 3.
James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital and Clinics offers a variety of ways for patients to get to and from appointments at the Main Hospital and Outpatient Clinics. Several changes to parking and shuttle servicehave taken place to accommodate construction of the new Bed Tower. Remember, trams and shuttles run Mondays thru Fridays except holidays. We have updated the parking and shuttle maps to reflect the following changes (current as of Jan. 24, 2019):
-The Emergency Department has 15 minute drop-off parking for ED patients only; ambulances will continue to use the temporary road for the time being. Trams drop off is between Fisher House I and the ED.
-Gate 2 off Bruce B. Downs Blvd. (main entrance by the pedestrian bridge) is closed. Veterans, staff and visitors can still use Gate 1 on Richard Silver Way.
- Gate 3 is open for shuttle service and pedestrian traffic only.
An additional shuttle stop will be added to the Freedom Lot Patient and Staff parking shuttle route. It will enter through gate 3 and drop off at the main entrance of Building 1. Map
