Thursday, June 2, 2011

The first Stroke Awareness Event was held at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital on May 24. The event was well-attended by Veterans, family members, staff and the community. The importance of getting immediate treatment was emphasized: "Time is brain function!"

Neurologist, Dr. Michael Hoffmann, and Speech/Language Pathologist, Karyn Pingel shared their expertise on recognizing the symptoms of a stroke and the many hopeful treatment options that our VA provides. The key message is prevention of strokes through a healthy diet, exercise, and even taking a 30-minute power nap in the afternoon!

This event was sponsored by the Veteran/Family Health Education Committee.
