About our Hospital and Clinics

The James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital (JAHVH), located in Tampa, Florida, was built in 1972, is a quaternary clinical referral facility and provides services to more than 116,000 Veterans. Our main facility is comprised of a 566-bed medical center including a 415-bed hospital with a level 1 poly-trauma center; a spinal cord injury center, a community living center and a domiciliary. We are a large teaching hospital, affiliated with the University of South Florida College of Medicine and provide training for over 400 health professionals. Teaching is also provided through affiliation with 5 local pharmacy schools. We provide a full complement of services and surgical specialties including primary care, internal medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine research and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, oncology, geriatrics and extended care. We also have special programs for women Veterans as well as returning service members and their families. Our hospital has a newly built poly-trauma building which is the busiest in the nation.
JAHVH consists of eight facilities serving over six counties in West-Central Florida. This includes 6 affiliated community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) including New Port Richey, Zephyrhills, Lakeland, Brooksville, South Hillsborough and Lecanto.

Residency Program Mission

Pharmacists completing a residency program at James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital will be trained to provide patient-centered care in multiple practice environments. The residency is designed to develop independent pharmacist clinicians, possessing clinical and distributive skills as you take responsibility for the total medication management of your patients. Graduates will demonstrate the ability to educate other health care professionals, patients and lay persons on medication-related subjects.
